Phillies First Pitch: World Series Game 6 Yankees vs. Phillies 11/4/09: Lineups and Game Chat

 The 2009 World Series returns to Yankees Stadium as the Philadelphia Phillies were able to win game 5. The New York Yankees need to split at home to win their 27th World Series title but the Fightin' Phils believe they can defy history and become the first team to come back from a 3-1 deficit since the Royals in 1985 and become the first visiting team to clinch a World Series title in the Bronx since the 1950's.

Pedro Martinez finds himself in the midst of the drama and will start for the Phillies. One of the best post season pitchers in history will pitch for the Yankees as Andy Pettitte takes the hill. Expect another game full of drama mixed with highs and lows. Every baseball fan is hoping for a game 7 (minus the Yankees fans). Will it happen? Find out tonight!

Phillies First Pitch: World Series Game 5 Yankees vs. Phillies 11/2/09: Lineups and Game Chat

 The Philadelphia Phillies find themselves with their backs up against the wall in game 5 of the 2009 World Series. For the third time in their history, the team has won the series opener then lost three games in a row. In 1915 and 1983, they could not recover and lost both series in five games. Can they change their fate? Staff ace Cliff Lee gets the nod from Charlie Manuel and hopes to return the series to the Bronx. The Yankees counter with A.J. Burnett with three days rest. Both pitchers were outstanding in their first starts of the series.

For the Phillies, they must play tonight's game like it is the Superbowl. Every pitch and ever move will be under a magnifying glass. It does not get to be more of a must win then this. My hope is that the Yankees do not clinch at Citizens Bank Park.

The Yankees bottom of the lineup is depleted as Jorge Posada will not play with Burnett pitching, Melky Cabrera is injured, and they lose Matsui not having the DH. Ramiro Pena replaces Cabrera on the roster. Could this help the Phillies tonight?

Bullpen Blows Ballgame, Phillies in Big Trouble

 If Brad Lidge were a horse they would shoot him. After trailing all game, the Philadelphia Phillies came back to tie the New York Yankees in the eighth inning of game 4 of the World Series. Lidge could not get the job done and hold the tie while Mariano Rivera showed why he is the best closer in history. 

The two advantages the Yankees had coming into this series were the closer position and the fact that the Yankees have left handed starters to counter Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez, and Chase Utley. Both showed their ugly head tonight.

The Phillies are as good as the Yankees in talent, maybe better. But they are not executing. Tip your hat to the Yankees. They came to play. The Phillies are resting on their laurels from 2008 and do not have the fire to win. 

It will now take a miracle for the Phillies to win tomorrow let alone win two games at Yankees Stadium. Enjoy being World Champions Phillies fans, it may end tomorrow.

Phillies First Pitch: World Series Game 4 Yankees vs. Phillies 11/1/09: Lineups and Game Chat

 The Philadelphia Phillies look to even up the 2009 World Series after dropping two games in a row to the New York Yankees. C.C. Sabathia will pitch on 3 days rest while the Phillies will counter with right hander Joe Blanton. Tonight's game is a must win for the Phillies as they can not afford to go down 3 games to 1 and be forced to play 2 out of 3 games at Yankees Stadium.

 The flu is still lurking its ugly head in the Phillies club house. Chan Ho Park was not available last night and may not be available again tonight. Greg Dobbs and Pedro Martinez have also been under the weather during this series.

Lefty Steve Carlton will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to fellow southpaw Jamie Moyer. Jody Johnson from the U.S. Air Force will sing the National Anthem while policeman Matthew Allshouse will sing "God Bless America". Alanis Morissette will sing the National Anthem for game 5.

 After a thrilling game one victory, the Philadelphia Phillies look for the sweep at Yankees Stadium. Pedro Martinez will be on the mound as he will try to be New York's daddy. Enigmatic A.J. Burnett will toe the rubber for the Yankees. Don't expect the pitcher's duel that you saw last night to be replicated tonight. 

With Burnett on the mound, Jorge Posada is moved to the bench weakening the lineup for the Yankees. The catching controversy continues for the Yankees as Burnett prefers to throw to Molina. The Yankees loss of Posada in the lineup is the Phillies gain. Another change for the Yankees will be in right field where Hairston will replace Swisher.

Cole Hamels looks to return to form and lead the Philadelphia Phillies to their second National League pennant in as many seasons and the seventh in franchise history. Former Phillies pitcher Vicente Padilla and the Los Angeles Dodgers stand in his way. Look for the Padilla Floatilla, or at least a group mocking the enigmatic right hander.

The weather is cold and rainy in Philadelphia but Citizens Bank Park is electric as the Phillies get ready for game 3 on the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cliff Lee will pitch for the Phillies while the Dodgers counter with Huroki Kuroda. Game time temperatures are expected to be in the low 40's, much like the weather the Phillies battled in Colorado minus the snow.
